Too Old for this Shit
Miles today: 241
Soundtrack: Mad Max: Fury Road, Metallica
Today we did a longer day for the trade-off of spending 2 nights in one place. We had a leisurely morning packing up camp and hit the road at about noon.
I started the day listening to the Mad Max: Fury Road soundtrack. It was glorious. It was a beautiful day and the route unexpectedly included a ferry. The final turns approaching the ferry were glorious. The ferry pulled up just as we got there. Perfect! I had cash ready. Then the attendant went down the line to let everyone know the ferry was now done for the day. Oookay. Not feeling so glorious anymore, so I changed my music to Metallica and we found a bridge to cross in to NY at Ticonderoga. This added some time to our day, so we kept all of our stops short which also kinda wears on you.
There was hardly anyone on the roads in the Adirondacks this time, which meant that Julie didn't have anyone in front of her for most of the time and could get totally in the zone. It was great.
As the day wore on we found an ice cream spot. Jaron got a banana split but it didn't have any bananas in it. She completely remade his dish which was very nice of her. We decided to mail it in and take the interstate after ice cream in the interest of time.
We were heading west starting at noon, so, straight in to the sun all day. It got really bad in the late afternoon and Julie decided to put her helmet's built-in sunshade down over her sunglasses, which is a big no-no. It made it bearable tho. When we got to Syracuse, it was really fun trying to read signs between the sun and sunshades.
We navigated thru some construction to our hotel. We needed to get one street over and the cross streets were all blocked. Julie declined to go thru one turn that looked particularly adventuresome despite being on a literal adventure bike. We found one that was less adventurous. There was some grooved pavement that required extra attention and asphalt ledges that required the right approach angle but it was fine. Our hotel had a little carve out for parking to check in or drop people off and we parked there. I should have gotten a picture.
We had to wait for 25 min at the hotel counter for the receptionist! We kept wondering if we should go get dinner. After 10 min Jaron called and the phone rang in some cute annoying sound. He just kept dialing and trying all of the menu options and then we just stayed due to the sunk cost fallacy. We got there at 6:47 which isn't terrible, but we've been getting to our destinations at like 4 so far on this trip.
We got unloaded and changed in to walking shoes and went to a nearby ramen/sushi/poke restaurant. It was actually really good for being a rando place in a college town. We got back to the room at 8:45 and confirmed that we are <checks watch> too old for this shit.
You are both pretty old, but age is just a number.
