WIMA Rally Day 2: Riding with Katharina

This morning Julie was being indecisive about what to do today while overwhelmed by options. As she was walking back to our cabin, a woman from Germany who I'd spoken with yesterday asked if I wanted to go for a ride. I said sure! And that spurred me to get my shit together. 

We attempted the long route again. We had a nice ride this morning and found a spot for lunch at a burger butcher place. After using Google Translate and translating the menu online in to German, we ordered. Katharina wanted a reasonably sized portion and so ordered from the kids' menu, and received a pretty full sized portion of chicken tenders. Jaron got chicken & waffles made in to a burger with 2 waffles as buns, the chicken, an egg fried over easy, and maple syrup. Katharina started in on her chicken & waffles with a knife & fork. Jaron started on his hot mess with predictable results. They were sitting across from each other and the contrast was real. We were all laughing about it and our new friend even took a picture of the struggle. Julie’s lobstah roll was perfect. 

We kept going and rode thru a state park and just crossed in to New Hampshire before turning around. Katharina asked if we could get ice cream, woman after my own heart. She insisted on treating us to ice cream. 

After we got back, Jaron went for a laydown and Julie went to the onsite bookstore, for which she had pulled out some cash. I made my way down the line of books until I ran out. I spent the rest ot the time before dinner getting dedications by the authors. Amy & I were pretty much going around like fangirls holding out books and waiting for the authors to be available. 

Now that I’d gotten all of my books signed, I could ditch them in the room and stop carrying them around!

Dinner was great. A woman from WIMA Iceland walked around to hand out little goodie bags with a lapel pin and piece of lava. She handed one to Julie and Jaron, so Amy's husband looked up expectantly, but apparently they were for the women only, and Jaron qualified based on his fabulous hair. So he gave his to Amy when she came back.

Days 6 & 7: Shitty End to an Awesome Trip

Miles today: 200+ Miles so far: 980? (Gah! We won't hit 1,000 now.) So when we were on the Niagara river, our phones touched Canadian airspace and we both got messages about international rates. When we were getting ready to head out, Jaron noticed that navigation was now in metric and he could not figure out how to change it back to custom. The usual options were not presenting themselves. So we were having an interesting time working with that. At the next stop he was able to change it back to custom, but decided to leave it at metric because, after all, his motorcycle is very popular in Europe.  We officially don't GAF about check-out times anymore. When anyone asks, we keep saying we're amost outta there. Noon seems like a far more reasonable check-out time.  We did not have any hotel arranged for Thu night since we hadn't decided what exactly we were doing on the trip back. Post-Party Depression

Miles today: 317.7 (2,965.3 so far) Hours in the saddle: 5:39 (69:03 so far) Theme music: Eminem & Julie’s “shake it” playlist Cold long-haul day today.  Shook out all of the maps except for PA and did route planning last night. I’m trying to have things to look forward to on the way home other than interstates and cheap motels. 🤮 Starting to feel a little bit of post-party depression ( https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.urbandictionary.com/define.php%3Fterm%3DPost-Party%2520Depression%26amp%3Dtrue )  now that our trip is winding down. I’ve spent like 9 months looking forward to it and am already trying to think of the next one. Jaron said we should finish this one first?  So I found a couple of scenic stretches and we have a couple of stops and we’ll get home by Friday. We have our camping gear, but it takes time to set up and pack up and we have just had a lot of long days so we haven’t camped on this trip.
