Perfect Day
Miles today: 222.5
Hours in the saddle: 6-8ish?
Today was seriously a perfect riding day. For all the pissing and moaning about the awful rain yesterday, we could not have asked for better weather. Jaron did some route planning the night before.
We got up at 7 and Julie made camper meals and both Maxwell Ho coffee packets (still inadequate). (Julie actually added a packet of 2014-expired SBUX Via to her 2nd cup to improve it.) We watched the MotoGP sprint at 9 before setting out along some excellent roads. We got lunch at a super cute a sandwich place and then continued on to Hawk's Nest State Park for ice cream.
Our choice was a sundae or banana split. We both requested banana splits, but the banana was whole. Jaron did cut his in half for a proper split. Julie's strawberry syrup contained actual strawberries!
We took a different route back and had Julie lead, bc my focus was flagging after lunch. I didn't sleep great just from being in a new location, etc. After focusing on hydration and giving my brain more to do, everything went back to being perfect. We were on the WV equivalent of Skyline Drive minus the PoPo and I got totally locked in the zone. We came across a couple of deer, etc.
One of our hydration stops was at a picnic area and it ended up being a really pleasant 30 min stop. There was a really pretty creek (not pictured) and Julie remembered to have a snack.
Next stop was dinner in the ski resort village. We had a hard time figuring out where to park and it required a couple of turnarounds which sapped Julie's energy. Julie was about to park in Administrator 17's spot, bc, fuck it. I don't think he's here on a Saturday night. But Jaron found us legal parking and Julie let him manhandle her bike to be facing the correct way for departure. Now we're wandering around the little village (wearing full motorcycle gear) trying to figure out where to eat. One place had a longer cocktail menu than dinner menu. After finding a pizza place that didn't consider us too scuzzy to eat there, Jaron was asking if the salad for two was an appetizer for two or a dinner for two and Julie said we want salad for two. Jaron asked if we needed a 16-inch pizza for two people or if 12 would be enough, and Julie said we would like a 16-inch carnivore's delight. Good thing I had that snack earlier.
A couple was tailgating in a van in the parking lot when we got back to our bikes. They were on mountain bikes, but they have the same bikes we were on - 790 and 890 KTM Adventures. The woman was 5'2" and asked if mine was lowered (yes). We talked bikes & roads and it was cool.
There was another flash flood warning that did not come to fruition. Back to the room to shower & crash.
I am super excited about how Oura has improved activity detection for motorsport! Now I get a map!
