Taronga Zoo Sydney
Alright, time to go to the correct zoo.
But wait! We had to spend at least 30 min figuring out how to open the charging port and paying for EV charging at the zoo. There are 3 ways to open the charging port, but none of them will work until magically, one does. Julie started using the stopwatch on her phone to clock time wasted fighting with the car in order to feel some measure of control over the situation.
We go in to the zoo and start in the Australian section. The Aussie animals are just so fucking cute. Here is an emu and a (I think) a wombat.
This kangaroo is lying in Burt Reynolds repose.
Koalas! Omg they are ADORABLE!
I mean, what's he doing all the way up there??
Looooook so cute!!

Not pictured: the Tasmanian Devil, bc he was running around too fast!
This is an electric fence and reminded us of Jurassic park.

We figured we'd go ahead and see some normal zoo animals while we were there.

We watched the chimpanzees for a little while. Look at the little baby holding on!!

So their butts actually help them sit in trees while sleeping and are recognizeable just like faces. I'm glad this is part of the 3% that deviated from our evolution.
I got a video of several of them gathered around a rock. They were pretty excited about playing with sticks and were bringing different sticks. We saw them sticking sticks in a hole in the rocks. Universal hobby, I guess? Then they would stick the end of the stick that went in to the hole in to their mouths. They were using the stick as a tool to get insects or something to eat from under the rock!
There was another enclosure of chimps that we watched for a little while. There were some birds on the grass and a chimp passing by screeched at them and waved them off with his arms in a very "get off my lawn" manner.
We saw a gorilla, too.

An elephant!

Here is a good shot that Jaron got of the Sydney skyline.
We got pizza for dinner and a local couple at an adjacent table started a conversation with us bc based on our accents, we're not from around there. Which is true. This has happened to us several times and has led to many good conversations. It's just funny to contrast that with norms back home where saying "hey, where're you from? I can tell by your accent that you're not from here" is not a cool thing to say to someone.
