Twisty Twisty Day

On our way out of Jackson, MO we saw a field of grazing camels!! ?? Also, a pet crematory and a deer processing place. 

We finally found a place w/o cell service along our route and talked with some locals at a gas station which fortunately had premium. Unfortunately the downside of KTMs is that they take premium, and in the boonies where the good roads are, sometimes gas stations only have 87. There is a brand of nice gas stations around here that only has 87. 

I might finally be hitting my stride on this bike. I have not been losing Jaron ahead of me today and we have been in all the twisties. 



We passed a Dairy Shack in Eminence, MO at the base of a scenic highway thru Mark Twain National Forest and decided that would be a good lunch stop. 



We found an empty picnic table and piled our jackets and heated liners on half of it. 



What a great find! They have pickle chips! And house-made cherry limeade. 

We went north on 19 on the Ozark River scenic highway (?) and it was pretty spectacular. And we had no one in front of us for most of it, there were not a lot of cars on the road today. Just lots of pretty mountain roads and pretty sky. 

We went for two and a half hours this afternoon without seeing a gas station. We finally found one, and it only sold 87 and diesel. We noticed that there were a bunch more at a junction 4 miles away so held off. But yeah...gonna have to carry around octane booster if we take these bikes much off the beaten path.

    Would carrying some bottles of octane booster help with the 87 octane problem? This is Matthew Taylor by the.....new follower to your blog :)

      Hi Matthew! For some reason I didn't get an email about your comment and only just saw this. Definitely going to need to bring octane booster when we go off the beaten path on these bikes. 👍🏻

Days 6 & 7: Shitty End to an Awesome Trip

Miles today: 200+ Miles so far: 980? (Gah! We won't hit 1,000 now.) So when we were on the Niagara river, our phones touched Canadian airspace and we both got messages about international rates. When we were getting ready to head out, Jaron noticed that navigation was now in metric and he could not figure out how to change it back to custom. The usual options were not presenting themselves. So we were having an interesting time working with that. At the next stop he was able to change it back to custom, but decided to leave it at metric because, after all, his motorcycle is very popular in Europe.  We officially don't GAF about check-out times anymore. When anyone asks, we keep saying we're amost outta there. Noon seems like a far more reasonable check-out time.  We did not have any hotel arranged for Thu night since we hadn't decided what exactly we were doing on the trip back. Post-Party Depression

Miles today: 317.7 (2,965.3 so far) Hours in the saddle: 5:39 (69:03 so far) Theme music: Eminem & Julie’s “shake it” playlist Cold long-haul day today.  Shook out all of the maps except for PA and did route planning last night. I’m trying to have things to look forward to on the way home other than interstates and cheap motels. 🤮 Starting to feel a little bit of post-party depression ( https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.urbandictionary.com/define.php%3Fterm%3DPost-Party%2520Depression%26amp%3Dtrue )  now that our trip is winding down. I’ve spent like 9 months looking forward to it and am already trying to think of the next one. Jaron said we should finish this one first?  So I found a couple of scenic stretches and we have a couple of stops and we’ll get home by Friday. We have our camping gear, but it takes time to set up and pack up and we have just had a lot of long days so we haven’t camped on this trip.
