Rainy Chill Day

Monday
Miles: 64
Hours in the saddle: unknown

After massages we headed out for lunch. With all of this aromatherapy this will definitely be the nicest our gear will smell all week. The massage oil in my hair has also been making it easier than normal to take my helmet off.

We went to the Opera House cafe in Brookville, PA to scope it out for our anniversary dinner. After that we hit up a grocery store for an in-cabin caffiene source. (Someday I really am going to track how much we spend on gas vs beverages on these trips.) The person in front of us was getting 3 chicken pot pies. Since it’s been supposed to rain all day, I said that sounded good. But then there were people behind us in line so we didn’t go get any.

We were feeling a bit spirited and did some noodling around for a couple of hours before going back to the cabin. At a gas stop a PA forest ranger was there getting a cold drink and said hi on his way out. Well, we saw him not too much later...apparently 68 in a 25 inside the park personally offended him. There was really no reason for that road to have a 25 mph speed limit, but of course we just said a lot of yes, sir’s. He said he was not going to cite us, which was very nice of him. Apparently we had passed him while he was stopped somewhere else along the state highway and he saw that we were going 45 in to the park so he caught up with us. But here’s my only question: how fast did he have to go to catch up with us? Hmmm?

We continued noodling around at a more appropriate pace and found a really nice river road I had read about in my scenic driving PA book. It followed the Clarion river for a ways through some really pretty trees. Idk why, but the trees here are prettier than the ones where we live. They are really tall for one thing.

Back to the cabin for some reading and naps. The rain finally came in, like whoa. Given that all of the restaurants around here close at 8 or 9, at about 7 we were like...hmm. Those pot pies were sounding pretty good. But, we also had clif bars, white cheddar popcorn and cocoa. I was not interested in finding out how my roadster handled a washed out gravel road, but Jaron decided to go on a pot pie run. Bless his heart.

  1. Well, going 68 is a bit much but maybe tone it down some. You are suppose to be on vacation taking your time. Sounds like he may have too much time on his hands, also, clocking everyone. I have stayed in state parks before and that is what I noticed anyway. But you can bet he would be Johnny on the spot if one of your neighbors was making noise, partying and all, so its not all bad.

    Well have good time!
