Day 4: Niagara Falls

Miles today: 250.6

Miles so far: 690

Things I forgot to mention yesterday: We make a point of bringing all of our stuff in in one trip now that we have this super functional motorcycle luggage with all kinds of carry straps and backpack straps. Jaron ended up wearing his helmet in so that he had enough hands for his luggage.

Also, we saw a billboard and a turnoff for the Pompous Ass winery on the way here yesterday. Ya know, I've heard that New Yorkers are direct.

We spontaneously went to Niagara Falls instead of the hike we had planned on. That is, instead of seeing 12 waterfalls, we decided to go see the big one. We got tickets for the Maid of the Mist, the boat tour of Niagara Falls. They handed out these blue ponchos as we boarded and they were flapping all over the place so Julie didn't want to wear hers. So she got soaked, but everything I was wearing is quick-dry. It was really cool getting to be in the middle of horseshoe falls.

After that we went on the observation deck and Jaron took a picture of people taking selfies, and then a selfie of people taking selfies.

Then we watched the rapids for a little bit and got dinner at a gastropub in Buffalo. Then we hit the highway for the ride back and got in at 11:00. We'll see how long it takes for the caffiene to wear off.

We are bummed that we didn't think to pack our passports. We parked right next to the border.

Dusk here is bug time. Like for serious. Last night we were not going as fast on the smaller state highway that we took here, but we got a lot of bugs and had to clean off our windshields this morning. Well, tonight we were screaming down the highway at 75-80 and there were so many bugs on Jaron's visor after an hour of riding that he was having trouble seeing. (Jaron's windshield is not very tall, so it didn't catch all of the bugs like Julie's did.) A firefly met its end on Julie's windshield tonight, which was entertaining for a little while. When we stopped for gas and to clean off his visor, I saw bugs on both of our armor suits. Gross. We'll be washing those bad boys after this trip (for the first time...).

Interstates are boring. Julie has requested no more interstates on this trip.

Comments

  1. I have been meaning to go there but thinking about the barrel ride down instead. I wonder why so many bugs in that area.

We got 5.5 inches of rain while I was gone. Came down a gully washer and flooded the local area Friday night. I was still gone on my trip to come home to soaked carpeting in the TV room. Did that 9 years ago too. This time I will have the carpet pulled up and replaced with some kind of flooring. Maybe to match the kitchen it also flooded but can dry up easily. And mustiness won't be a problem.

Trying to send you a message with the embroidery people's information.
